Jalandhar ‘Clean Punjab’ Cleanliness Drive: Cabinet Minister, Mayor and DC Launch 10-Day Campaign

Jalandhar, August 29: Punjab Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Mayor Vineet Dhir and Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia on Saturday launched the ‘Clean Punjab’ cleanliness drive at Bhagwan Mahavir Marg in Jalandhar. The initiative marks the beginning of a 10-day statewide campaign aimed at clearing Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across Punjab.

The campaign, being conducted from August 29 to September 8, focuses on removing open garbage dumping sites and ensuring that these locations remain clean in the future. Mohinder Bhagat, Vineet Dhir and senior AAP leader Nitin Kohli joined sanitation workers and personally swept the road, reinforcing the message of cleanliness and public participation.

Clean Punjab Campaign Focuses on Garbage Vulnerable Points

Speaking to mediapersons, the leaders said the initiative is part of the Punjab Government’s broader cleanliness campaign being undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Ministers, MLAs, Deputy Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners and other officials have been asked to participate in field-level cleanliness activities to ensure visible improvements across cities and towns.

Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat said cleanliness is a collective responsibility and appealed to residents to cooperate with civic authorities. He urged people to dispose of their waste responsibly and avoid dumping garbage at places that have already been cleaned.

Jalandhar MC to Identify and Clear Garbage Dumping Spots

Mayor Vineet Dhir said the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar will focus on identifying and clearing Garbage Vulnerable Points in the city. He stressed that sustained public cooperation is essential to ensure that cleared garbage spots do not become dumping grounds again.

Citizens can also contribute to the campaign through the Punjab Government’s M-Seva app by uploading photographs of Garbage Vulnerable Points in their respective areas.

DC Varjeet Walia Appeals for Waste Segregation

Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia called for coordinated efforts involving government departments, civic agencies and residents to make the cleanliness campaign successful.

He appealed to residents to segregate dry and wet waste at home, explaining that proper segregation would help authorities manage and dispose of waste more efficiently. He also encouraged people to participate in neighbourhood cleanliness activities and help transform the campaign into a sustained public movement rather than a one-time exercise.

Nitin Kohli Calls for Mass Public Participation

Senior AAP leader Nitin Kohli highlighted the importance of mass participation to make the cleanliness campaign successful across Jalandhar district. He appealed to residents to keep their surroundings clean and refrain from indiscriminate dumping of waste.

The 10-day Clean Punjab campaign aims to strengthen cleanliness efforts, eliminate garbage vulnerable points and encourage citizens to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean and healthy surroundings across Jalandhar and Punjab.
