Sri Muktsar Sahib, November 6, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal has appealed to farmers in Sri Muktsar Sahib district to avoid burning paddy stubble and adopt environment-friendly methods of crop residue management.
He said stubble burning not only causes air pollution but also destroys essential nutrients present in the soil, adversely affecting its fertility and overall health. As a result, farmers may have to use additional fertilisers to maintain crop productivity, increasing their farming expenses.
The Deputy Commissioner encouraged farmers to make effective use of modern agricultural machinery and available technologies for proper stubble management. He said incorporating paddy straw into the soil can help farmers protect the environment while improving soil quality.
Explaining the benefits of in-situ stubble management, he said that mixing crop residue into the fields increases organic matter in the soil, improves its fertility and can contribute to better crop yields in the long run. It can also help reduce the dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides, ultimately lowering cultivation costs for farmers.
DC Amit Kumar Panchal further appealed to farmers to bring only properly dried crops with moisture content within the limits prescribed by the government to grain markets (mandis). This will help them avoid unnecessary difficulties during the procurement and sale of their produce.
He urged farmers to adopt responsible farming practices and contribute towards reducing environmental pollution by avoiding stubble burning.
