Women from self help groups set up Sentry Pads Production Unit

Work started in the initial phase at a cost of Rs 8.64 lakh

Punjab State Azvika Mission is making special efforts to provide employment to rural women. Under this Ajivaka Mission has now set up a Sentry Pads Production Unit at Gurusar village under Block Bhagta Bhaika in Bathinda district.

A self help group formed by the women of the village is being run at the village panchayat house. This information was shared by Additional Deputy Commissioner Development Mr. Paramvir Singh.

Disclosing this here today Additional Deputy Commissioner said that in the initial phase a grant of Rs. 8.64 lakh has been spent on this unit under Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rubber Scheme. In addition, Rs. 62,000 has been spent by the women of the self-help group who belong to all the Dalit sections. He also informed that these women were providing pads to the rural women by making pads at very cheap rates. Apart from this these pads are also being sold by them through beauty parlors and RMP doctors located in the villages.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner further said that due to the Corona epidemic, the group had prepared and distributed 36000 pads in the slum areas of the villages under the Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme as per the demand of the district administration. The group also earned about Rs 1 lakh 8 thousand from these.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Stalanjit Singh Harika, District Program Manager, Ajivaka Mission and Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Chattha, District Function Manager said that this unit has now got ISO number. In future, the group will launch canned pads in the market under the name of Azadi Sentry Pads. Apart from this, the group also plans to sell pads through Flip Card after Make in Punjab and government e-marketing.
