PM Modi opens India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, Sudarshan Setu.

PM Modi opens India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, Sudarshan Setu. Before the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi opened Sudarshan Setu in Gujarat, a four-lane cable-stayed bridge linking Okha to Beyt Dwarka island.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled Sudarshan Setu, a four-lane cable-stayed bridge that links Okha to Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat. As per an official statement from the Devbhumi Dwarka administration:

the bridge measures 2.32 kilometers in length, featuring a central double-span cable-stayed segment spanning 900 meters, along with a 2.45-kilometer approach road.

Built at a cost of:

Rs 979 crore, the bridge showcases a width of 27.20 meters, with 2.50-meter-wide footpaths on both sides.

Renaming and Significance:

Initially known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ the structure has been rechristened as ‘Sudarshan Setu‘ or Sudarshan Bridge, as confirmed by District Magistrate (DM) GT Pandya to news agency PTI.

Enhanced Accessibility to Beyt Dwarka:

Beyt Dwarka, situated near Okha port approximately 30 kilometers from Dwarka town, hosts the revered Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna. Presently, devotees visiting the temple at Beyt Dwarka are limited to daytime boat trips. However, with the completion of the bridge, authorities anticipate unrestricted access to the temple round the clock.

Apart from inaugurating the bridge, PM Modi intends to visit Dwarka town to pay homage at the Dwarkadhish temple. Additionally, also delivered a speech to a sizable audience in the vicinity later in the day.

Following the ceremony, the PM is set to launch and lay the foundation for several projects across:

  • Jamnagar
  • Devbhumi Dwarka
  • Porbandar districts

These include electrifying a 533-kilometer railway line and unveiling two offshore pipelines under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Vadinar.

Additionally, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced that PM Modi will inaugurate five All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) campuses in:

  • Rajkot (Gujarat)
  • Bathinda (Punjab)
  • Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Kalyani (West Bengal)
  • Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh)

during a public event in Rajkot.
