India batsman and Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal is now stable and will be released from the Agartala hospital on Wednesday. He was admitted on Tuesday following a health scare during a flight. Mayank experienced throat irritation and lip swelling after consuming a “poisonous liquid” before the flight departed from the Tripura capital.
Ramesh, the Karnataka team manager, mentioned that Mayank Agarwal would arrive in Bengaluru in the afternoon and clarified that the cricketer would be unable to speak for the next 48 hours due to “ulcers and swelling.”
Mayank Agarwal was swiftly taken to a private hospital after being removed from a Delhi-bound Indigo flight in Agartala. Later in the evening, the hospital issued a statement confirming that Mayank was clinically stable and undergoing further monitoring.
Mayank Agarwal also lodged a police complaint in Agartala, claiming foul play after mistakenly consuming a transparent liquid, which he believed to be water, upon settling into his seat.
Mayank was on his way to Surat for Karnataka’s upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024 match when he had to disembark. Despite this, the skipper played a crucial role in Karnataka’s challenging triumph over Tripura in Agartala, contributing with the bat in the Elite Group C match.
WHAT OCCURRED WITH MAYANK DURING THE FLIGHT?
“We were preparing for takeoff, and Mayank felt thirsty. He reached for the water stored in the seat pocket in front of him. After a few minutes, he noticed a tingling sensation in his throat and felt nauseous. Quickly, he made his way to the restroom near the cockpit and alerted the flight attendant,” shared Karnataka team manager Ramesh with India Today.
“The flight attendant promptly activated the emergency signal and checked for any medical professionals onboard. Unfortunately, there were none, so the pilot was informed, and the airport authority was notified. Upon assessment by doctors, it was determined that Mayank required hospitalization rather than first aid. An ambulance was dispatched, and he was transported to the hospital.”
Ramesh also confirmed that Mayank Agarwal would be absent from Karnataka’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Railways in Surat from February 2 to 5. However, he is expected to return for the subsequent game against Tamil Nadu in Chennai from February 9 to 13.
Tripura state health secretary Kiran Gitte stated that the police had accepted Mayank’s complaint and would conduct an investigation into the incident.
IndiGo, the airline carrier, released a statement that didn’t specify the nature of the medical emergency.
“IndiGo flight 6E 5177, flying from Agartala to Delhi, returned to its departure point due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was disembarked and promptly taken to the hospital for further medical attention. The aircraft resumed its journey to its destination at 1620h,” the airline communicated in its press release.
