CCPCR ask Chandigarhians to be like Sonu Sood, Karan Gilhotra and Narinder Singh

Chandigarh, 08th October 2020(Jagmeet chahal) 

At a time when the world is perplexed by the Covid-19 pandemic, children are deeply affected and impacted by the ongoing crisis. 

In response to the unprecedented educational challenges created by school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chandigarh like other Indian states have implemented remote learning policy. Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) estimated that at least 6000 students in Chandigarh remain cut off from education, mainly due to lack of equipment needed for learning at home. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Pooja Punchhi, Member CCPCR said, “Never before have so many children been out of school at the same time, disrupting learning and upending lives, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized. And therefore CCPCR intends to make efforts in working with the community to support children who have been impacted due to COVID-19”.

On Thursday, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) organized a felicitation ceremony to recognize Child Rights Champion who have contributed towards children’s education by donating smartphones. The programme was organised in Conference hall of CCPCR, Snehalaya, Maloya, Chandigarh.    

On the occasion, CCPCR felicitated Sh. Sonu Sood, Bollywood Actor, Sh. Karan Gilhotra, Philanthropist and Sh. Narinder Singh (S.H.O., P.S. – 26. They were awarded certificates of appreciation for their invaluable and generous contribution towards child rights. 

While speaking on the occasion, Ms. Pooja Punchhi, Member CCPCR applauded the work done by these gentlemen to brighten the future of our country by supporting children’s education. Their significant contribution has ensured uninterrupted education but have also worked as an impetus for their better future.  

While addressing the children Sh. Narinder Singh asked children to stay away from crime and the menace of drugs. Sh. Karan Gilhotra ensured that he is always ready to extend a helping hand for the children in need. 
In the Vote of Thanks, Ms. Seema Rani, Principal, Government Model School, Dhanas thanked Sh. Gilhotra for the irreplaceable help and said that he and Sh. Sonu Sood are nothing less than Messiahs for the students of her school.  And applauded efforts by Sh. Narinder Singh for the welfare of Children. 

The initiative is undertaken by Ms. Niti Mohan, Consultant CCPCR and Sh. Chanchal Singh, RTE Consultant. During the program, Commission appealed to the society including organizations and individuals to come forward and support the initiative by donating (New/ Second Hand) smartphones/laptops/computers. On the occasion, Sh. Narinder Singh, SHO, PS-26, Chandigarh has donated 100 shoes and Ms. Pooja Punchhi, Member, CCPCR in her individual capacity donated 100 slippers for the children of CCI.
