The budgetary provision of Rs 92 Crore grant by the Punjab Government for the renovation and expansion of existing infrastructure of Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala would prove revolutionary in the health sector in the region.

This revelation was made by the Principal of Government Medical College, Patiala, Dr. Rajan Singla while expressing special thanks to the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and MP Patiala Mrs Preneet Kaur.

Dr. Singla said that with the special efforts of Medical Education and Research Minister Shri O P Soni, Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital was heading towards remarkable improvements and infrastructural changes. He said that a modern Trauma Center would be set up at Government Rajindra Hospital Emergency ward at a cost of Rs. 42 crore for the treatment of the victims of road accidents and serious injuries and the operation theater would be renovated.

He said that the emergency ward would be made air-conditioned at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. A state-of-the-art laboratory would be set up at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, where all the tests would be conducted under one roof. Apart from this, residential accommodation for Class 3 and 4 employees and staff nurses, provision of furniture for medical college and hostel for doctors would also be provided at a cost of Rs 36 Crore. Divulging the details of ongoing projects, he said that construction of a multi level parking for 300 cars is in full swing while 34 wards out of 36 have already been renovated. The Institution Building will also be completed this year for accommodating the increased seats in the MBBS course.

Medical Superintendent of Rajindra Hospital, Dr. Harnam Singh Rekhi said that the grant would be beneficial to restore the old glory of Rajindra Hospital and better treatment facilities were being made available to the people. He said that this trauma center with special grant would be a boon for the treatment of road accident victims. Dr. Rekhi expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, MP Mrs Preneet Kaur and Cabinet Minister O P Soni for considering this premiere medical institute for strengthening and up gradation.

Meanwhile, the state general secretary of Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association Dr. D.S. Bhullar while welcoming the Rs.92 crore grant announced in the budget, thanked the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Member of Parliament, Mrs. Preneet Kaur and said that this grant would prove as a milestone for the development and improvement of health services in this region.

Dr. Bhullar said that this would enable the doctors of the Medical College and Rajindra Hospital to provide better treatment facilities to the poor and needy people belonging to the Malwa region. On behalf of the association, he specially thanked the Chief Minister and MP for showing a clear vision of the Punjab Government towards improving medical education.
